Brent's Premiere Club team won the 2008 Canterbury competition (again). In fact they went through unbeaten for the entire year. Brent was in the Canterbury Rams basketball team in 2008. He previously made
several age-group representative basketball teams and made the
Canterbury Under 20 Rep Basketball team in 2005 so we were all very
proud of him.
He was captain of the A team for the school. Although
their average size was the smallest in the competition in Brent's last
year at school, they came third (narrowly beaten for second place) in
the Canterbury school competition in September. Brent was also
named in the tournament team - the best players chosen by all of the
coaches. He proudly wears his tee-shirt.
He has been in
the Atami Club's Under 23 team since 2006 and was nominated by all of the
competition coaches as MVP in 2006 and 2008. He has also played in the
Premiere grade since 2006 and the team won the Christchurch competition in 2006 and 2008. Brent has just started rowing. He and Sam (pictured right) have good physiques for rowers and Sam's uncle is training them. Wade
represented Canterbury in age group basketball and volleyball while at
Shirley Boys' High School. In 2001 he was named best hitter, best
blocker and Most Valuable Player in Canterbury school volleyball so we
were very proud of him for that. He also made the South Island and NZ
schools volleyball teams and then the NZ Junior Volleyball team 3 years
in a row (a trip to Brisbane, another to Melbourne and then a tour of
the North Island).
Wade
was nominated in 2001 for Shirley BHS Sportsman of the Year but did not
win. He had Eddie Lee to contend with (NZ No. 1 amateur golfer and
World No. 1 junior). He was also a finalist for the Zonta Canterbury
Young Sportsperson of the Year. He now plays volleyball for the Pioneer club and last year they came second in the NZ National Tournament.
Robert
is still playing basketball and occasionally amazes himself although
getting off the ground is becoming harder as the years roll by.
He
is also now regularly mountain biking and has become relatively fit,
although he had a major fall a while back after going over the front -
no broken bones but heaps of blood and bruises. He has ridden several
tracks on the Port Hills and a 5 hour ride on the Wharfedale Track.
Paula and Robert
now regularly ride together, usually in the forest but sometimes to
coffee shops. We rode the Central Otago Rail Trail after Christmas
2007. |
